Makynzie Steffens

Makynzie Steffens, Yearbook Editor

Junior Makynzie Steffens is a photo editor for all of the journalism programs at AHS. Steffens earned her journalism letter at the beginning of her junior year. Steffens’ favorite part about journalism is taking pictures and helping people when they need help with photo editing and with the cameras. This past summer she had the opportunity to learn at a journalism summer camp hosted by Media Now at Drake University.

Some other activities that Steffens has participated in are dance, NHS, MVP, tennis, journalism, cheer, dance team. She said, “As of recently there has been more of a priority to cheer because of Homecoming week, but normally journalism is the activity that takes up a majority of my time.” Taking photos is her favorite part of journalism, and enjoys taking photos for football and track. Steffens said, “...anything outside is pretty nice because the lighting helps.”

Steffens wise words of advice are to “always be willing to try new things.” She said it’s also important to have a positive view on things even if you fail. Being open to making new friends outside Steffens friend group is something she wishes that she did before. Knowing when you are putting too much on your plate is one of her biggest challenges with high school activities such as journalism. She said, “just knowing your limitations on what you can and cannot do.”
