Wind speeds exceeded 50 mph yesterday, causing the top of the flagpole outside the main doors to the high school to come off. Student Knox McCalla was walking to play practice when he spotted a gold piece of metal on the ground. He then picked it up to find it was the top of the flagpole. “I have it at home on my shelf, but I’ll give it back if they ask,” McCalla said. Custodian Richard Smith said he did not know anything about the topic, but it has now been brought to his attention. Maintenance Director Russell Peck said he believes the current pole is the original from when the school was built in 1996.
