Atlantic FFA is hosting a meeting on Monday, January 12th, in the Atlantic High School commons at 6 p.m. They are serving hamburgers for a meal. At the meeting, the FFA is talking through Winter formal, sub-districts, and Iowa degrees. Winter formal voting is commencing with five girls instead of six. Iowa degrees are due on January 30th. 12 members from the Atlantic Chapter are applying, which would beat the original Atlantic record of 11 members. Sub-districts need more contestants because of the range of events. “We have a good group, hopefully a lot of people advancing to districts,” said Claire Schroeder, Student Advisor.

Keaton Schroeder, Staff Writer
Sophomore Keaton Schroeder says the part of journalism that has him most intrigued is the news stories that he gets to hear. This helps him stay updated with the world and our community. Schroeder is engaged in baseball, golf, and wrestling. He participates in StuCo, FFA, and FBLA. When it’s his free time, he likes to read and enjoys doing sports outside of school. Schroeder loves to clear his mind with exercise and push himself to be better in everyday life. This helps him manage school because it gives him a chance to rest. He values sports and social contact with others. This keeps him busy and sets him forward. What drives him back to Atlantic and the high school is the friends and social contact that he has with others. He enjoys talking with others and being a part of their lives, as they are his.
Allison Berryhill, Adviser
Allison Berryhill, the advisor of the journalism program and an English teacher here at AHS has been teaching for 26 years and has been advising the journalism program for 14 years. Berryhill said, “ My favorite memory is when the room is buzzing with students working in teams and the energy is addicting.” Berryhill finds different aspects of each department in journalism fun. “The yearbook is always amazing, and our podcastors and social media team came back with great ideas from Media Now.” One thing Berryhill likes about journalism is that you need a wide range of students with different interests. “Some students shine through with social media, yearbook or taking photos,” said Berryhill.
Outside of teaching Berryhill plays the accordion, runs, juggles and loves to learn new things. She also enjoys reading and writing poetry. “Right now, I am learning Spanish on Duolingo,” Berryhill said. Berryhill would also like to shout out that the AHS journalism website has won the SNO award three years in a row.
