Alex Garcia, Staff Writer

Sophomore Alex Garcia is a staff writer in Journalism Productions. They joined Journalism because they love taking pictures and wanted to learn more about the backside of the yearbook, AHS Needle, and Eye of the Needle. “I’ve always liked taking pictures. On my little iPhone 6, I would just go outside and edit them because I was bored and I’ve always had fun with it.” Since then, Garcia has grown their photography skills in Journalism and hopes to pursue a future with it. Their favorite picture that they’ve taken is one of Lexie Trotter. “She hurt her shoulder and she was there in pain and it showed a lot of emotion.”

Garcia’s favorite thing about high school is the sporting events or football because they’re in the band. “I genuinely like marching band. I think that’s pretty fun. It sucks when it’s cold but it’s not bad.” She plays the trombone. Other than journalism and band, Garcia is involved in speech, fall musical crew, and spring play.

They’ve been employed at Plaza Azteca since their family owns it. If they’re not working or involved in school activities, Garcia listens to music. Their favorite artist is Frank Ocean. The song that describes Garcia is “either Godspeed or Ivy.” One of the lyrics in the song, “Godspeed” is, “I let go of my claim on you/ It’s a free world.” Garcia said this lyric hits hard because it reminds them to be optimistic and forget the past.

In the future, Garcia plans on having a future in photography, running Plaza Azteca, or be somewhere in Seattle, Arizona, or Iowa.
