Upcoming in the 2026-2027 school year, Atlantic High School is introducing several new classes. These classes include: AP World History: Modern, Foundation/Geography, Intermediate Foods, and Recreational Health/Fitness. There are 3 classes new as of last year: General Construction, Modern Band & Music Production, and Ref Reps.
To take these classes, first you need to take:
AP World History: Modern – None, can be taken instead of World History (Sophomore Year)
Foundation/Geography – Anyone can take it at any time as an elective; incoming freshmen will be taking it as well
Intermediate Foods – Intro to Foods
Recreational Health/Fitness – Health 1
General Construction – Intro to Trades
Modern Band & Music Production – None
Ref Reps – None, but knowledge of sports/rules is encouraged
Find descriptions of these classes in the new course guide
Foundation/Geography will be a social studies elective; you need 1 Social Studies elective to graduate. The rest of the classes are optional electives, with Recreational Health/Fitness counting as a PE credit. When signing up for these new classes, counselor Alyssa Boltz wants students to remember “that any AP class is going to be more rigorous but will be a possibility for college credit.” Her other consideration is to review the class descriptions in the course guide. These classes are geared toward certain things, like college prep or careers. Boltz said, “I believe both. The electives get students to explore what they do or do not like while also having any class help develop a student’s soft skills needed in college and career.”
