The school board passed its At-risk/Dropout Prevention plan for fiscal year 2027 on Jan. 29th. The program is similar to the one that has been in place for multiple years. Previously, it was written and submitted by the High School Principal, but due to a change in state law, it must now have approval from the board. The changes were to the definition of who is at risk. Director of the program, Stacy Schmidt, said, “It’s gotten a lot broader now, even the mental health part of it.” Schmidt also commented that the district has adhered to the program, saying, “This year I think all four buildings are doing a better job, they are putting preventions in place.” Board member Chet Meneely noted during the discussion of this program that the district will soon be down to one mental health professional to oversee the psychological considerations of at-risk students. Melanie Fell will be the only acting mental health professional after the resignation of Gentri Meier, effective this February.
