Thursday, Feb. 12, was one of those days that remind you why leadership activities actually matter. The Atlantic FFA hosted the annual Chapter Officer Visit in Ag teacher Eric Miller’s classes. The classes started with the “magic carpet” challenge, balancing on a sheet while guiding blindfolded teammates and somehow flipping it over without anyone stepping off. It took a lot of talking, trusting, and laughing. Then came the “human table,” where they leaned on each other in a rectangle while chairs were pulled away. Staying up wasn’t about individual strength; it was about everyone doing their part.
They also talked about strengths and weaknesses, and how real teams don’t call people out; they lift them. “Teams are only as strong as the weakest link, but why is it important not to just single out the weakest link, but to actually build them up and help them,” said Tucker Olsen, the southwest district treasurer. Overall, the day was “super fun,” and the officers felt they made good connections with mature students.
