March is recognized as Women’s History Month, a time dedicated to honoring the achievements and contributions of women throughout history. The observance also helps address the historical absence of women’s stories and accomplishments in many educational texts.
A key part of this month is International Women’s Day, celebrated each year on Mar. 8. The day traces back to 1917, when women in Petrograd, Russia, organized a strike demanding “Bread and Peace.” Their protest helped spark the Russian Revolution and eventually led to women gaining the right to vote in Russia. In 1977, the United Nations officially recognized Mar 8 as International Women’s Day. PBS
Today, Women’s History Month serves as a reminder to recognize the important roles women have played in shaping history, culture, and progress. It also inspires future generations to continue striving for equality and opportunity for all.
