Valentine’s Day is a holiday known for love and romance on February 14th of every year. On Valentine’s Day, people give flowers, candies, and stuffed animals to show their love for someone. Often in elementary school, it is a celebrated holiday when kids bring a decorated box or bag and a valentine for each person in their class. Saint Valentine was believed to be a Catholic priest in Rome. He believed in young love, even though others did not, and continued to marry couples in secret. Claudius found out about his actions and ordered Valentine to be executed. Other stories say Valentine was executed for helping people escape harsh prisons. Another story is that Valentine sent a gift after falling in love with a girl, and in his note to her, he said, “From your Valentine.” While we don’t know exactly what happened to make it to Valentine’s Day today, we can still appreciate the day with love.
