The team attended their first tournament last Saturday, Dec. 6th, where they placed third overall for bullseye and second overall for 3D. “It’s some of the best shooting 3D we’ve ever done to start the year off,” said the Archery Coach, Clint Roland, “Bullseye wasn’t our greatest to start off…We’ve got a good future going forward this year.”
“I think we did pretty good, nerves-wise,” said senior captain Shauna Andersen. She said she was told by multiple people that they felt good about shooting and looked forward to the chance to improve.
With one tournament under the belt, the archers have set goals of furtherance and improvement. One skill Coach Roland hopes for the team to gain is confidence in the archer’s abilities. However, the biggest goal Roland has “set for the team is to be proud of what you have accomplished this year, and don’t look back with any regrets.”

The High school archery team is hosting its annual December home archery tournament on Saturday, Dec. 13th. The tournament will last all day from 7 am to 10 pm. With about 600 archers “coming through the door” to shoot archery. This is the longest and largest tournament Atlantic Archery has ever hosted. The number of participants rose about 25 percent, as the previous home tournament attendance was about 450.
Other personal goals are usually set at the beginning of the season, and senior captain Hank Roberts hopes to place high at state, and as a team itself, he’d “like to see the team qualify for nationals.”
Sophomore Paislee Klever is seeking a “personal best of two hundred seventy plus in bullseye” along with sophomore Thomas Engler and Captain Andersen. Showing up with a positive attitude at practice is always a great way to achieve those goals. Klever intends to “go to every practice and try my hardest to improve on one small thing each day.” Doing this will help them achieve their goals of a two hundred eighty in the bullseye.
Atlantic Archery continues to aim high with a strong start to the season. Great scores and record-breaking tournaments keep their spirits high as they carry on throughout the season.
