Wrestling season is right around the corner, and the wrestlers are excited. The boys have many goals they are hoping to achieve this season. Things like state, records, and beating specific people are all goals that the team wants to achieve. It has been a very productive off-season with many open-mat practices and wrestling camps. These things have helped the team to become stronger and prepare for the 25-26 season.
This year’s team wants to have a winning mentality, according to 120-pounder Keaton Schroeder. “Our eyes should always be focused on the next best thing,” he said.
Many wrestlers indicated they are focused and ready to battle for a win.
The wrestlers have personal, as well as overall team goals, that they are working towards. Junior Collin Harris aims to be in the top three at State. This season, he is wrestling in the 113-pound weight class.
Last year was a very successful season. Six boys qualified for the state tournament, and two received state medals. That was a rewarding moment for the team overall. Four of those boys will be returning for this year’s season. The coaches are very proud of the team’s accomplishments; they strive to continue growing and keep the energy up.
It is essential for the Atlantic Trojans to attend and support the team. Wrestling is a very exhilarating sport and is a fun way to get the community together. Senior Donovan Hedrington says, “Fan support is very important to the team, especially during dual meets.” Both the boys and the coaches notice the fans. They truly believe that it helps with the team’s performance.
The boys are a very tight-knit team. They always have each other’s backs and want to help one another. Schroeder states, “teammates are bonded closer than in any other sport because of the hardships you face as a team.” No matter what they go through, they do it together, creating a great dynamic.
This season is going to be very riveting. Head coach Tim Duff talks about their goals and says, “Our BIGGEST goal is always to become a better version of ourselves each day.” That is a great mentality to have going into a fresh season.
