Cass Health, the leading healthcare organization in southwest Iowa, has been serving the Cass County community since 1968. Cass Health is a critical Access Hospital that provides numerous services, such as primary care, inpatient care, emergency, surgery, and obstetrics. “We serve patients of all ages from across the region at our main campus location in Atlantic, as well as our three satellite primary care clinics in Anita, Griswold, and Massena,” said Ann McCurdy, Director of Marketing and Communications.
Cass Health is different from other hospitals in Iowa for various reasons. McCurdy highlighted “the community we serve, the standards we hold ourselves to, and our dedication to the future workforce.” Cass Health has been named one of only three 5-star hospitals in Iowa by Forbes.
Cass Health has also been dedicated to supporting students. “You’ll often see medical students, nursing students, or other students here in our building learning from our staff,” McCurdy said. The hospital offers a Nurse Apprenticeship program that covers nursing school expenses while also providing part-time work.
Cass Health strives to provide a superior experience to those it is privileged to serve, McCurdy said. Their vision is to be the best rural hospital in America. “These ideas shape every interaction we have with patients.” The hospital has to keep learning, growing, and adapting to meet community and patient needs.
Cass Health has recently expanded its orthopedic surgery team, with Dr. Kimberly Turman, a sports medicine specialist. They are also adding mental health services in their primary care clinic in Atlantic. “We have several new providers coming on board soon, too.”
In recent years, Cass Health has grown. The center now employs about 500 people, making it the largest employer in the county. They have also added “dozens of providers in a wide range of specialties,” McCurdy said. Furthermore, construction of the new eye clinic is almost completed. More construction is on the way, which will include the addition of an operating room and expansion of Rehab Services.
Cass Health believes in supporting students, explained McCurdy. “Whether it’s in our Nurse Apprenticeship program, a job shadow, a first-grade field trip, or in a journalism classroom, we know that investing our time and resources in students helps create a better, healthier future for all of us.”
