This year, we are getting not only new students but also new teachers. Lindsey Roberts is 33 as of this year. She is an ELL (English Language Learners) teacher at Atlantic High School. The majority of the time she teaches or assists kids with learning and speaking the English language. She has known since childhood that she wanted to work with and help children. She is from Council Bluffs, Iowa. She was drawn to Atlantic because of the location and the specific chance to work with ELL students. In total, she has taught for 11 years, and this is her 11th year. She taught at Marshalltown for 10 years, five years was eighth grade language arts, and five years was eighth grade math.
Roberts graduated high school from Woodbine, Iowa. First, she went to Iowa Western Community College for her associate’s degree. Then, Iowa State University for her bachelor’s. Recently, she got her master’s degree from Grand View University. “I think it was great that I started with IWCC as a transition to college. My hometown was very small so IWCC was a good stepping stone and I always tell my students that community college is a great choice and then you can transfer if that’s your goal.” She is looking forward to helping the kids advocate for themselves, the things they need to help them learn better while at school. At the same time as doing grade-appropriate school work. Roberts said that ELL won’t get “all there” in a single day. It takes time, just like it takes time to learn, so the motto she lives by is “one day at a time”
Roberts likes comedy shows and playing/watching basketball. Her top three hobbies are photography, doing her nails, and reading. Nick Roberts (her husband) is her biggest supporter. She wants everyone to know that she looks forward to working in the Atlantic school community and having relationships with the families.
