At the special school board meeting Feb. 4th, the approval of Jesse McCann’s resignation was postponed to an unknown date. A statement was given by board member Josh McLaren about how the situation around McCann was still developing. Three members of the board were in attendance. 40 community members and eight high schoolers attended. A petition to hold a special election for the next school board member was being passed around by Stef Gross. Gross said, “We need people we protect and help our kids. They [the board] are not doing that.” There was time for public comment. Concerns were voiced over the safety of AHS children. Cody James and others voiced their concerns about alleged past problems. The board was unable to answer most questions for legal reasons.

About the Contributors
John McCurdy, Staff Writer
John McCurdy is a freshman in journalism for his first year. He joined journalism because he’s always been interested in the field. He said, “In fourth grade I made my own newspaper and I work at a radio station.” McCurdy finds his favorite part of journalism “Hard to narrow…down.” Since joining journalism, he has been able to expand his writing skills.
McCurdy is also involved in Civil Air Patrol, speech and debate, drama, tennis, cross country, and 4-H as an officer. Furthermore, he volunteers at local organizations. In his free time, or as he says “what’s left of it,” he enjoys short wave radio science, reading, writing, building model airplanes, and Bible study. In the future, he plans to go to a service academy and receive a commission in the US Military.

Knox McCalla, Broadcasting Editor
Knox McCalla is a 16-year-old junior and is a junior editor for Senior Magazine, and helps on the broadcasting team. He has even created a new segment called “The McCalla Minute.” He first got into journalism because his sisters both did, and they encouraged him to try it out. And he enjoys writing and technology. The best part of Atlantic High School Journalism is the “freedom it gives me and the privileges. Getting to ask anyone anything, take pictures, write stories, and clear up misinformation.” His favorite memory is writing senior stories. Specifically getting to “make stories like the person I’m writing about.”
Outside of journalism, McCalla enjoys movies, music, making movies, “spending time with the boys,” and playing games. He is involved in journalism, choir, the musical, play, and tennis. In the future, he wants a job he can see himself in; “something social and something simple so I can have a fun time.” He is very excited for the upcoming year and to graduate. He can’t wait to see all of the fun things he accomplishes this year.
