Although the election was on Tuesday Nov. 3, many states didn’t have a clear winner until days after. This delay was caused by the mail in ballots and was expected due to the large number of people choosing to vote from home because of COVID-19. North Carolina, Arizona, and Georgia still haven’t concluded the counting, but the results of these states will not change anything about who won. According to The New York Times, Joe Biden currently has 279 electoral votes, while President Donald Trump has 217.

President Elect Joe Biden and Vice President Elect Kamala Harris will be sworn into office on Jan. 20, 2021. Harris will be the first female vice president of the United States. In Biden’s speech addressing the American people he said, “I pledge to be a president who seeks not to divide, but to unify. Who doesn’t see red states or blue states, only sees the United States.”
