Ava Rush
Snap. The click of a camera. More photos, different angles, new people. Ava Rush’s journalistic passion is photography, though she was originally enticed into joining the program by her older friend’s encouragements. Her favourite aspect about the class is “getting involved and just having fun with everyone.”
In the meantime, Rush hopes to attend the University of Iowa in the future to either become a pediatrician or enter into running. She settled on the college after visiting her sister, Karsyn, who is also attending the college. “I instantly fell in love with everything about it and they’re a great medical school.”
With a high activity involvement, Rush is never short on new experiences. She participates in volleyball, cross country, track, and softball, with the latter being her favourite. The “team aspect” is a large reason for why Rush developed a fondness for sports. “We all become one big family from being with each other everyday.” Thanks to her family’s history of softball, Rush immediately took a liking to the sport, with one of her favourite memories being from when they were “staying overnight in the hotels and dorms and having fun with my teammates before our tournaments the next day.”
Their family is home to two teddy bear dogs. The female, Ivy, is “very adventurous and loving” with a drive for cuddling with people. Meanwhile her male counterpart, Ollie, seems to be more “hyper and crazy.” Despite Ollie’s troublemaker label, he also resorts into a cuddly friend after he wears himself out. “We got them because my family absolutely loves dogs.” The two were integrated into Rush’s family “the moment we got them.”
Always meeting new people, Rush would say that she’s friendly and driven. She also loves to hang out with others. A part of her drive to succeed involves setting goals for herself and trying to be as good as she can be in both the academic and athletic worlds. “I am constantly setting goals for myself.”
Many things interest Rush. Her favourite season is summer and she has a taste for chocolate-covered strawberries. Meanwhile softball and running are a huge aspect of her life. Some of her favourite places to run in include gravel roads. “It’s so quiet and peaceful and the sunsets or sunrises are always amazing.”
