Many families hang their stockings on Christmas Eve in hopes of them being filled in the morning.

What do you want for Christmas? A question that has been asked for many, many years. Recently TikTok’s “For You Page” has been filled with Christmas wishlist ideas for girls. There have even been arguments about what is “trending” the most, for the 2023 Christmas season. This week girls at AHS shared their input on what they wanted for Christmas. Looking at the answers of the AHS students and those of the online “experts” compared interestingly.

“What I want the most for Christmas is a new phone,” said Aliyah Williams. She said that her phone was old, and had been broken for a while.

Sophomore Zoey Kirchhoff said she wanted a new curling iron. She agreed with Williams though, that a new phone would be a “great present” as well.

Sophomore Olivia Jensen wants a pair of gray Nike dunks.

Sophomore Bella Brock asked for a new car.

“A lot more books” would be extra exciting for sophomore Addy Williams.

Zach Bryan tickets top the list for sophomore Ryley Kuhns. Kuhns said that she thought it was “a long stretch, but it’s worth trying.”

What many people want for Christmas, is a list that goes on and on.

It’s interesting to see if what people around AHS want for Christmas matches what the online “experts” believe people want. According to The Strategist, they published the “63 Best Gifts for Teen Girls 2023.” The list includes gifts that you could find while scrolling through your TikTok’s “For You Page.” Some popular beauty items included were the NYX Fat Oil Lip Drip, Summer Fridays Lip Butter Balm, Laneige Starlit Mask Trio, Glossier You Eau de Parfum, and the Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Liquid Blush. Along with the beauty products, they had many other items on the website as well. Squishmallows, blankets, lighted vanity makeup Mirrors, Fujifilm Instax Mini Cameras, “The Summer I Turned Pretty” trilogy, Apple Airpods Max, Stanley cups, and Ugg Minis are just a few.

There are similarities between what the AHS students want for Christmas and what the online “experts” tell us are the trending items wanted worldwide. Although the answers found online may be what some girls already have on their Christmas lists, it is safe to say that not every girl will want something that they see on TikTok. The best gift-giving advice is to learn more about who you are gifting a present to.

Claire Pellett, Staff Writer, Lead Podcast Editor
Ella Meyer is an AHS junior and in her second year of journalism. Meyer is the lead podcast editor for AHS journalism. Her favorite part is First Fridays.Meyer said, “It is when all of the leads get together and we talk about stuff and we just usually end up having some sort of fun and like laughing and just having a pretty good time.” Meyer is specialized in the podcast department of journalism. Her favorite memory in Journalism is over the summer of 2023 a group went to Media Now, which is a journalism camp. “I had so much fun, you do crazy games and I got really close with some of my fellow journalism people because we had to spend a week together in a dorm room in all these dorms and I'd say that’s probably my favorite. It got crazy and we had so much fun.” Meyer likes how journalism is different by how everyone works together, shares ideas as well as supporting each other on the ideas, and giving each other the best feedback possible so you can succeed. Currently Meyer is not involved in anything but journalism but Meyer picked up scrapbooking and is looking forward to it. She also enjoys reading in her free time.  Meyer is most proud of her Read Across America Yearbook page that she made last year. She got a lot of compliments on and Ms. Berryhill entered it into a contest and they are still waiting for the results. Meyer hopes to go into an education major to teach journalism down the road.  Story by Jersey Green
