Maddy Anderson, Addie Freund, and Aubrey Windford show their “Snap codes.” Snapchat is a primary form of communication for most teens.

Do you keep Snapchat Streaks? Snapchat is a popular social media site that many teens take part in. Streaks are a feature on Snapchat that allows one to see how long they have been snapping their friends back and forth, though teens aren’t the only ones who use this app.

Some teachers and staff are on the app as well, such as Band Director Jarrod O’Donnell. O’Donnell has had Snapchat for “four to five years,” he said. His highest Snapchat Streak is 1,881 days long with the high school’s very own principal, Heather McKay. He said the reason he keeps streaks is because it “is something fun to do.”

Another AHS teacher who has Snapchat is Dan Vargason. Vargason is the AHS Spanish 2 through 4 teacher, as well as Leadership. He doesn’t know how long he has had Snapchat, but has an ongoing streak of 1,975 days with Ryan Hawkins. He keeps streaks because it has “become a habit.” Vargason thinks Snapchat is “super random but also cool. I get to keep in touch with people from coaching and old friends,” he said.

Katie Hedegaard-Moreno is an English teacher at AHS and she also keeps Snapchat streaks. Hedegaard-Moreno has had Snapchat since 2013, which for her was her freshman year in high school. Her highest streak is 2,439 days with her husband. “It is from when we first started talking and became friends,” said Hedegaard-Moreno. However, there has been some trouble with keeping this streak. Hedegaard-Moreno explained that the two got into an argument and he blocked her on the app, causing them to lose their streak. She didn’t want to lose their streak so she contacted customer service and explained that her phone wasn’t working and got the streak restored. Now on Snapchat, there is an option to pay to restore a lost Snapchat Streak.

The students here at AHS also add in their thoughts on Snapchat Streaks. “I’m pretty bad at snapping people back, so keeping streaks is kind of the only way I stay in contact with certain people,” said senior Claire Pellett. Pellett has had Snapchat for around eight years and her highest streak is 1,777 days with a friend of hers.

There are just a lot of things that go around on it and not all of it is true.

Snapchat isn’t for everyone though. Sophomore Xander Cook does not have Snapchat as he finds it to be too much drama for him. “There are just a lot of things that go around on it and not all of it is true,” Cook said. He does say that he thinks it helps others connect more if they have an out-of-state friend, but thinks for those closer in distance it would be better to text. Cook does believe it keeps people connected to friends as “it gives you something to do every day.”

Some of these people have crazy high Snapchat Streaks and it is interesting to see how high these streaks can get. What’s your highest snap streak?

I like that you went to the teachers to interview them about snapchat. Since sometimes you don’t think that they would have the app.
