Juniors win Spirit Stick

By Landon Stark

The class of 2014 won the coveted Spirit Stick during AHS Homecoming competitions last week.

During the week of Homecoming, each grade competed for the token showing who has the most spirit: the Spirit Stick. Each grade attempted to receive points by showing their “Trojan Spirit” during the week.

During halftime at the Homecoming game, juniors celebrated their school spirit victory!

Points were awarded for students participating in dress days, featuring a Hawaiin/Tropical theme, Animal Day, Survivor Day, Beach Day, and Black and Gold Day.

During Seminar on Tuesday and Thursday, students earned points by playing in a dodgeball competition between grades.

Students also earned points by winning lunch games such as coconut bowling.

Every grade also had one week (13 hours) to make a Homecoming float.  After school every day, each grade would gather at a certain location to work on their grade’s float. At the end of the week, the floats were judged and every grade’s “Spirit Points” were added up.

The junior class of AHS had the most points at the end of the week, placing them in first place, and earning them the spirit stick.

When asked, senior AHS student Scott Caslow said he’s pretty happy that the juniors won the Spirit Stick.

The class of 2014 won the stick as freshmen in 2010.

Though the senior class won the spirit stick last year, the juniors still have a chance to win the Spirit Stick three times during their high school experience.
