Nails are a great way to express your personality and make something your own. There are many different styles, designs, and shapes to get on your nails. I have been getting my nails done since 7th grade, so for four years now, and one thing you’ll notice about me is I always have my nails done. You may also notice there are quite a few students, staff, and even faculty who get their nails done.

One example is our principal Heather McKay. She gets her nails done and has done so for 34 years. She started when she was a junior in high school and has continued to ever since because it is something fun she gets to do. McKay said that her nails are “a part of her.” Her current nails are inspired by her mother, she mentioned that she wanted her nails pink in honor of her mom. She gets her nails done in Council Bluffs and has never gone anywhere else. 

Junior Aubrey Winford said having her nails done makes her “feel more womanly.” Her manicurist is her 8th-grade sister, Miley, and her nails are currently purple “with shimmers.” Nails can make an outfit complete and are an avenue to self-expression. They are a way you can present yourself as even more unique than you already are. They also make you feel more confident and you can distinctively express yourself.

Hello! I’m Hallie Robinson an AHS sophomore journalism student. Something that I am very passionate about is appearance, expression and overall current trends going on for my demographic. I takes pride in understanding the shifts and changes when it comes to current style. Trends along with the algorithm are constantly changing and are different for everyone so keeping up with the continual modification of both can be tricky. But I believe that I balance both very well. I feel that I connect with this on a personal level and have cared about my appearance since I was little. When I was younger I loved to dress up, do my make up, get my nails done, etc. There is also a certain level of confidence that comes along with this as well. I feel that my strong passion for appearance has made me more confident in myself than ever before. This is definitely something I care about and work hard to keep up my knowledge on the recent trends that are occurring.
