Anna Potts, AHS Needle Co-Lead
Senior Anna Potts is an AHS senior lead editor and marketer. Potts's favorite part of being involved in journalism is "All the different personalities of people." She mentioned that she loves to see everyone's personalities come together. Potts loves giving "quality work", she believes that taking your time presents you with the finest product. Something you should know about Potts as a journalist is that she is a "go-getter", Potts's prioritizes and values her career. Potts's life outside of journalism consists of focusing on her future plans. She referred to her life as very family-oriented. Potts's future plans include going to the University of Iowa to study pre-business, then transitioning into law school and becoming an attorney. Potts said that one of her strongest values is honesty, which as she mentioned says a lot about who she is as a person, she would describe herself a 'driven' and "unapologetic". Potts said that she is "excited to finish this year strong and eager to get to work on my plan for the future."

Audrianna Bayona, Yearbook Editor
Audrianna Bayona is a Senior Yearbook Editor this year marking this as her second year of being on the journalism staff team. She initially wanted to write stories her sophomore year but it slowly progressed to yearbook editing and writing bios. “I became a yearbook editor because I just enjoy the writing and getting feedback on it, and I like getting to know people.”
She likes being able to lead everyone while working as an editor this year. She’s proudly been editor of the month several times and continues to put in hard work to make great quality for her team.
Outside of journalism Bayona has participated in volleyball, working as the boys’ track manager, NHS, and is even participating in wrestling this year. She also likes “working with epoxy and painting” as well as “spending time with friends and family.” Bayona says her favorite thing about journalism is “probably just taking pictures and seeing people’s smiles and capturing them.”

J. Molina, Broadcasting & AHS Needle Lead Editor
Senior J. Molina is the Co-Lead Editor of the Newspaper Division and has been involved in journalism for 4 years. A moment Molina is proud of is when they quickly produced a story about the AHS Speech Team’s evacuation from a bomb threat. “I’m proud of that because I had to churn it out and then immediately go to spaghetti supper (for band).” Molina was awarded Best of SNO for the story. Their goal for Journalism this year is to “smoothly guide everyone to success that they can be proud of.” Outside of journalism, Molina is involved in Speech and Debate, Theater, and Band as the Head Drum Major this year. They’re learning French horn and they “love band.” Molina also draws and writes in their free time. One important thing Molina wants you to know about them is that they’re a big fan of this year’s HARK values. Molina also cares about others around them and in the school, they said “I’m a care bear, I care a lot” and “Go Trojans.”

Makenna Schroeder, AHS Needle Junior Editor
Makenna Schroeder is a writer for AHS Needle and has been involved in Journalism for two years. Schroeder's favorite part of Journalism is the "diversity of people" in journalism and the "freedom it gives you." Schroeder also enjoys interacting with new people. Her favorite work she’s done is taking pictures at the state track. She met with tons of other reporters and other photographers from all over Iowa, and accessed special areas for journalists. "The entire experience was truly amazing and allowed me to see the hustle and bustle of state track without being an athlete.
In school, Schroeder is also involved in basketball, cheerleading, golf, softball, and AHS fuel, she is the secretary of student council and plays the flute in band. Outside of school, Schroeder enjoys dancing, reading, and listening to music. Schroeder loves to explore and have cool stories to tell. She loves to travel, and learn about different cultures and people Schroeder loves to have a "wide variety of knowledge." After high school, Schroeder plans to go to college but is unsure of where she would like to attend. Schroeder plans to enter the medical world, somewhere she can “travel and meet new people.”

Ella Meyer, Co-Lead Podcast Producer
Senior Ella Meyer is a co-lead podcast editor/producer and has been involved in journalism for 3 years. Meyer's favorite thing about journalism is how close the community is.“It's more like a family.” Meyer attended MediaNow camp for two summers, where she learned to be a better journalist and a leader. Meyer is the NHS president and is “proud she got out of her shell” and went out for something. Meyer described herself as funny, very nice to everyone, and also as a leader. Meyer's favorite thing that she has accomplished in journalism is starting up the podcast and making it “bigger and better.” Meyer enjoys taking new journalists under her wing and helping them. She helps the new podcasters by controlling the soundboard and guiding them to sound better. She also TA's one of the Intro to Journalism classes. Outside of school, Meyer works at the Heritage House as a Dietary Aid. “I enjoy helping those who are in need, and my job allows me to do that.”

Kylie Templeton, Social Media Leader
Kylie Templeton: journalist, friend, and daughter. Templeton joined journalism in her sophomore year and has stayed in it through her senior year. She's attended the Media Now journalism camp at Drake University for the past two summers where she gathered the skills to lead AHS Journalism’s social media accounts with fellow journalist Isabelle Symonds. Templeton’s favorite thing about high school is Homecoming week because the grade as a whole comes together and gets connected by doing fun activities such as building floats and the dodgeball tournament. Outside of school, Templeton likes to participate in dance, hang out with friends, and go shopping. Templeton also likes to read books; her favorite author is Colleen Hoover. Templeton wants to get an education in Phlebotomy (blood works) or another aspect of healthcare. If that doesn't suit her fancy, Templeton wants to go back to the same dance studio that has taught her to dance and become a dance instructor herself.

Alix Nath, AHS Needle & Broadcasting Editor
Alix Nath is a senior at Atlantic High School and is involved in various activities including AHS journalism, Quill and Scroll, National Honor Society, and Speech and Debate. Nath is a senior editor for AHS Needle, they also take photos for the website. Nath spoke about their "most enjoyable" subject in school: art and journalism. They said, "I truly enjoy showing different perspectives and I think using art as a medium to do that and writing to do that is important to see". Nath gives examples of what types of pictures they want to capture, "While the marching band is warming up" and "If it's a musical or play I'll go backstage, get some photos". Nath says they want to "Shine a light on people and things you don't normally get to see in the spotlight". They're working on a behind-the-scenes in Journalism and a "Free speech in a Small Town" piece. Nath says "Once I do leave it's going to be the people I miss". They said they were going to miss the people who "Structured my education and have had a lot of impact on me, as well as friends."

Aubrey Winford, Yearbook Editor
Aubrey Winford is an AHS Junior and part of the social media department in journalism. Winford has been a part of the journalism team for two years. Winford posts on social media every day for the AHS Needle Instagram account and Facebook account, and “if any other areas need help”, Winford helps with those areas. “My favorite thing about journalism is the people I meet through it,” Winford said, “I've met so many new people I wouldn't have ever spoken to through journalism”, which she says is “pretty cool”. Winford also loves how much freedom they are given. Something Winford enjoys about school is “seeing other people every day and being able to meet new people”. Winford is active in Choir, Student Council, AHS Fuel, Tennis, and Journalism. She also enjoys cleaning and going on walks.
