Have you been to Udderly Delicious? Many can be seen waiting for their delicious treats on the corner of 7th and Walnut St.
The owner Chris Conrad said, “I buy the best ice cream I can, it’s high in butterfat, very creamy.” The quality of the ice cream is “what it’s all about”. The ice cream is bought from a vendor.
Conrad also said on average, they go through about 300 gallons a week of vanilla and 40 gallons of chocolate. On opening weekend, in a span of three days, they went through 250 gallons. Conrad chose this corner for his shop specifically because of how busy it is. “It’s the busiest corner in Atlantic, Iowa,” Conrad said.
Conrad started Udderly Delicious because he wanted to start something “local”. “I had thought about doing this for the last 15 years, and it was all about location,” He said. There are currently 15 employees at Udderly Delicious. “I did not think that we would need that many, but we do,” Conrad said.
Business has been “beyond expectation” for Conrad. “I never even imagined it being as busy as we are. I had in my mind what I thought we would be able to do, but it has tripled it, if not quadrupled our expectations,” He said. While the main portion of the menu is ice cream, you can also purchase daily specials, such as briskets, but one of their more popular items was chicken salad croissant. “Our newest adventure, hot beef sundae, was gone in 45 minutes the day we ran it,” said Conrad. Their newest addition, in ice cream is waffle cones, which are now available.
A future goal for Conrad is to open somewhere undisclosed about 40 miles away from Atlantic, with another shop just like this. “When I’m off the road in four or five years, maybe have three or four of these in Southwest Iowa,” He said.
Unfortunately, Udderly Delicious won’t be open year-round. They will be open April through November, depending on the weather. If there is an early spring in March, Conrad said opening earlier is a possibility. The shop is open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
