Boys Basketball Picks Up First Win of Season

The Atlantic Trojans picked up their first win of the season against the Clarinda Cardinals on Tuesday night. The Trojans were coming off of a tough loss to the Glenwood Rams, and they wanted to get into the win column. They did just that. The Trojans got off to a good start in the first quarter, as they outscored the Cardinals 17-8.

The Cardinals would turn things around in the second quarter, as they lead the Trojans by four points at halftime. Atlantic made adjustments at halftime, and came back stronger once the third quarter began.

The Trojans kept battling and made the score 49-48 at the end of the third quarter, heading into the final frame. The Trojans fared better in the fourth, and they escaped with a 60-56 win over the Cardinals.

Junior Skyler Handlos led the Trojans in scoring with 18 points, while classmate Grant Sturm had 16. The Cardinals had three players who scored 13 points. The Trojans got their first of the season. The Trojans will look to build off of this win as they play the Creston Panthers on the road on Friday, Dec. 13. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
