The Atlantic High School speech team went to a competition on Friday, Nov. 1 and Saturday, Nov. 2. This was their first contest in over a month. It was hosted at Des Moines East High School and four Atlantic students traveled to participate in the tournament. The four students were juniors Troy Roach, Genevieve Martinez, and Gracemarie McCurdy, and freshman Alex Garcia.

Martinez and Roach took 1st place in Duo Interpretation and also swept first and second place in Program Oral Interpretation. McCurdy placed third in Humorous Interpretation.

The theater department is entering a very busy time of year. The next two weeks bring the Thespian Festival and the Fall Play.

Six students will be going to the University of Northern Iowa for the Thespian Festival on Friday, Nov. 8. Senior Kyra Namanny, juniors Reagan Watson and Camryn Church, and sophomore Carina Birkel will join Martinez and Roach in Cedar Falls.

The Fall Play opens on Friday, Nov. 15 at 7:30 p.m. “Radium Girls” will be on display all weekend in the AHS auditorium, with an evening show on Saturday and an afternoon showing on Sunday.
