The girls fought long and hard in their first regular season game of the year on Monday against Kuemper Catholic in Carroll.

Within the first few minutes of the game, senior Alyssa Ginther made the first goal of the game with an assist from junior Kayla Mauk. The first half ended with the score of 1-0, Atlantic in the lead. Shortly into the second half, the Knights scored their first goal which was quickly followed by another Ginther goal. Ten minutes from the end of the second half, the Knights scored their next goal, making the score 2-2. The Trojans were unable to score again, and the game went into overtime.

In overtime, both teams had good plays but neither scored, leading to a second overtime. Once again, neither team was able to put one in the back of the net. This means the game must go to a shootout. Each team chooses five players to kick from the penalty kick line and whichever team makes more shots wins the game.

The Trojan varsity squad lost 3-2 in the shootout and the JV team lost 3-1. Their next game will be Thursday, April 4 at Tri-Center.
