The  Atlantic boys’ soccer team has had a tough week with three losses, all home. Tuesday, May 9, the team played Lewis Central, where they took a 4-0 loss. Last year when the Trojans played LC they lost 1-4.  Lewis Central is ranked 8th in the state at this time.

Senior Taylor Kirchner said the team struggles with stopping the ball on the defensive side. He said the Trojans’ three-man defense on the outside was wide open “and our back side was vulnerable.”  The team then switched to a four-man defensive line to help protect the outside.

Kirchner was not able to play the last portion of the game after dislocating his knee. “Two years ago skiing I dislocated my kneecap,” he explained, “and (the injury) has led to many dislocations.  It happens when I rotate or move my leg in a certain way.”

“ I planted my foot to kick the ball and it decided to slide out,” said Kirchner, describing the injury. “Fortunately It went back in on its own and the trainer didn’t have to do it.  It is very painful and swells.”
Kirchner was sidelined from playing for the remainder of the week.

On Thursday the boys took a hard loss to Harlan in overtime, 2-1. The goal was made by Majerus Dulberg assisted to him by Kolton Carey. This was Dulberg’s second varsity goal of the season.
After the games on Tuesday and Thursday, the Trojans’ record for the year sits at 5-6. The 2016 season was the first year of AHS boys’ soccer team had a winning record.
