The AHS girls’ basketball team ended their 24-25 season very strongly, with a record of 18 wins and seven losses. The last time the girls’ basketball team made it to the regional finals was in 2004. Coach Vargason mentioned that he expects the team to resume how they ended the season last, which is strong and fast-paced. Moving at a fast pace leads the opponent to fall behind. A way Vargason likes to get the girls moving is with the drills, zig-zag, and 11-man. Vargason stated that these drills “build toughness going up and down the floor.” For play making Vargason likes to keep the same plays as the previous year but likes to tweak them with different spots that are open. This year’s spots to fill on the varsity roster are senior Lila Wiederstein due to injuries and the previous senior Patyn Harter. Even though these are the spots missing from last year’s lineup up Vargason always goes into the season “with an open lineup.” A way for him to keep the team so positive and upbeat is to focus on mindset. The AHS girls’ basketball team’s main focus at the beginning of practice is to build a great mindset and to become strong and confident mentally. This means focusing on themselves and not basketball for a little bit.
One way that AHS junior Brynn Lamp cannot wait for this season is to be with her teammates again. Many different teammates like to shoot in many different spots, but the hot spots for Lamp are the elbow and the short corner. Fun things the girls like to do as a team are to do hair in many different styles to get them ready for the big game. Some girls like to do a ponytail, bubble braid, and many more. Lamp and her teammates are looking forward to this season and are ready to win.
