Winter Formal is one of four school dances many students look forward to. They love the chance to dress up, see friends, and make memories. When getting ready, people get their nails, hair, and outfits done and ready. Most people will take pictures with friends and family, then eat before the dance starts so they can have the most fun possible. Students get to pick out an outfit, shoes, and accessories, arrange rides, arrange food, and figure out where to take pictures. They even get to pick a date and match with them, or their friends. All the students put in a lot of effort to look great and stand out. It is always interesting to see all the different outfits and combinations people come up with.
This dance has more structure than Homecoming or TWIRP. This dance has a more relaxed and optional dress code. There is so much thought and preparation that goes into this dance for students and staff. There were even two AHS students who provided music this year.
Some things people said they would change would be possibly adding a theme such as The Early 2000s or Throw Down Hoe Down. They also thought of making the dance longer, trying different dress codes, and adding drinks and snacks during the dance. The current dress code is casual-formal, so no jeans or sweatpants. Junior Ally Williams said they should, “Open concessions during the dance, the guys would buy a lot of drinks because they get sweaty.” The dance is from 8:30 pm to 10:30 pm. Some students say it should be longer and maybe even start earlier, that way people could dance longer and have more songs.
Some advice, Molly Harris says, “Go at least once to try it,” and Gabby Porter says, “Wear what you’re comfortable in.” Overall always remember while at the dance to have fun, but be safe, responsible, and follow the rules.
