Viral. Five letters, two syllables, and 546,200 views on an AHSNeedle TikTok. The AHSNeedle TikTok account posted the video on Wednesday, November 5, and it has ignited across the site. But how did this happen?
The TikTok video, posted by the AHSNeedle Social Media team, was comparing how left-handed versus right handed students wrote the capital letter “G.” This idea was decided by Aliyah Williams. “I saw the trend a while ago,” she said. The video was fun to make according to Williams. She saw a video from the original creator of the trend and, “I was like why not,” Williams said. The video was slightly difficult for Williams to get people to participate in. “You had to convince people a little bit,” she said.
TikToks, according to Social Bee, can go viral for many things. According to the site, factors which can make a Tik Tok go viral are hashtag and music usage, audience understanding, and engagement. The AHSNeedle TikTok, although longer than the average TikTok video (35 seconds), has kept the viewer’s attention and has only grown in views since posting. With Search Logistics stating, “TikTok currently has 1 billion monthly active users worldwide.” The AHSNeedle TikTok account is gaining traction on this popular site.
The AHSNeedle TikTok is not the only TikTok account known in the halls of AHS. Educator Rebecca Wallace has been posting on her TikTok account, which has over 1.5 thousand followers. Her videos average between 300-600 views, with one of her more viral videos gaining more than 10 thousand views.
TikTok is an app made in 2016 by internet company ByteDance. According to GRIN, ByteDance originally started an app called Douyin, which was created similarly to Music.ly. The company immediately gained traction in China and Thailand, so they chose to expand into the United States by buying out Music.ly and combining both platforms into what is now known as TikTok.
Moreover, AHS Junior Taylee Hagen has 29.1k followers on her TikTok account. Hagen joined TikTok when it was still known as Music.ly. “It’s always just been a fun thing to do in my free time, or when I’m with friends,” she said. Hagen enjoys, “being able to learn about things that I never thought I’d be interested in learning about, being able to be a part of fan bases of amazing content creators, interacting with friends or mutuals, and creating my own content for others to hopefully enjoy,” on the app. Hagen said, “Tiktok may not be an app that everyone enjoys, but it really does give the people a chance to be themselves and do the things that they enjoy the most and share it with so many other people.”
