Ella Meyer, Co-Lead Podcast Producer
Senior Ella Meyer is a co-lead podcast editor/producer and has been involved in journalism for 3 years. Meyer's favorite thing about journalism is how close the community is.“It's more like a family.” Meyer attended MediaNow camp for two summers, where she learned to be a better journalist and a leader. Meyer is the NHS president and is “proud she got out of her shell” and went out for something. Meyer described herself as funny, very nice to everyone, and also as a leader. Meyer's favorite thing that she has accomplished in journalism is starting up the podcast and making it “bigger and better.” Meyer enjoys taking new journalists under her wing and helping them. She helps the new podcasters by controlling the soundboard and guiding them to sound better. She also TA's one of the Intro to Journalism classes. Outside of school, Meyer works at the Heritage House as a Dietary Aid. “I enjoy helping those who are in need, and my job allows me to do that.”

Kate Nichols, Co-Lead Podcast Producer
Katherine Nichols is a senior co-podcast producer, and she also is a TA for Berryhill's English 9H. The Atlantic High School's podcast is named "The Point” and her co-podcast producer is Ella Meyer. The junior producers are Ellie Butler and Jersey Green. Some of the things Nichols is proud of are the awards that the podcast has received. The Point earned a second place, a third place, and also an honorable mention in the spring Iowa High School Press Association news contest. Her favorite podcast episode was with special guests Kylie Templeton and Isabelle Symonds. This episode was about life as a teenage girl (The Point Episode 5 ). Through journalism, Nichols' enjoys getting to connect with students that might not otherwise have a chance to share their thoughts. She is also proud of three stories she has written: The Pink Tax, Seniors Advice to the Underclassmen, and Under the Influence. Nichols has been to multiple different schools throughout her years but Atlantic High School has the best environment and this is her favorite thing about the school. Some things Nichols likes to do outside of school are reading, cooking, and spending time with her boyfriend and family.

Allison Berryhill, Adviser
Allison Berryhill, the advisor of the journalism program and an English teacher here at AHS has been teaching for 26 years and has been advising the journalism program for 14 years. Berryhill said, “ My favorite memory is when the room is buzzing with students working in teams and the energy is addicting.” Berryhill finds different aspects of each department in journalism fun. “The yearbook is always amazing, and our podcastors and social media team came back with great ideas from Media Now.” One thing Berryhill likes about journalism is that you need a wide range of students with different interests. “Some students shine through with social media, yearbook or taking photos,” said Berryhill.
Outside of teaching Berryhill plays the accordion, runs, juggles and loves to learn new things. She also enjoys reading and writing poetry. “Right now, I am learning Spanish on Duolingo,” Berryhill said. Berryhill would also like to shout out that the AHS journalism website has won the SNO award three years in a row.
