IN SYNC – The 2017-18 dance team performs one of their routines. They often danced at half-time during basketball games in the winter season.

After three years, AHS has brought back the dance team. With 22 members, the team is up and running and will have its first performance at an upcoming pep rally or basketball game. “So far it’s going very well, I am super excited to work with everyone,” said Misty Rhodes, dance team coach, sponsor, and volunteer.

This year the team plans on having two different routines, one pom and one hip-hop, as well as working on a staff-combined dance, where teachers are included. “We are currently working on the pom routine,” said Rhodes. They hope to have it finished around the end of October.

Senior Laney Brosam is one of two captains, who is “very excited to perform everything we’ve worked on, as we have a really good start so far.” She said that the team has a good group of girls who really want to be there. “Everyone is willing to try new things and just work really hard all around. I’m ready to show off our group.”

Sophomore Kylie Templeton, another captain, said, “I’m most looking forward to seeing how the team does this year, and the possible growth next year. I think it’s super fun, and the group of hardworking girls help make it so enjoyable.” Templeton is in charge of choreographing the pom routine. “It has been super fun watching it all come together with the hard work from the girls.” She also said she loves the encouragement coming from Rhodes and the team.

Templeton has always “had a love for dance, teaching, and choreography. I have danced for 11 years now and I assist classes at Villa Dance Company and I have been for about four years now. After high school, I’m interested in teaching dance so I thought this would be the perfect thing to test the waters for my future. The talent on this team is so awesome and I can’t wait for everyone to see.”

The 2022 dance team is off to a really strong start, and can’t wait for AHS to see their progress.
