Trojans Plan to Celebrate Their Five Day Weekend
An impromptu school cancellation leaves students feeling excited.

Once a semester, AHS holds parent-teacher conferences on Wednesday nights and Thursdays, but this week is different. Due to the Atlantic/CAM wrestlers making it to State Duals, Superintendent Steve Barber made the decision to cancel school in the district on Wednesday and move conferences to Tuesday night.
The Dual Tournaments will be held this Wednesday, Feb., 16, and will last all day. The Traditional Tournament will follow all day on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. A full schedule of the events is located on the IHSAA website.
In order to ensure all students have the opportunity to watch the duals, a pep bus has been arranged to transport kids to the arena. Anyone can sign up but everyone must have already gotten their State Wrestling Duals tickets before getting onto the bus. The cost is one dollar. If someone is unable to attend, another way to support the team is to wear their merchandise. T-shirts, long-sleeved shirts, and hoodies are available at Outfitters Plus.
When the news broke out that ACSD wouldn’t be having school on Wednesday, students were elated. Juniors Abbigael Richter and Nina Welter are happy about the long weekend. Richter will spend the five-day weekend prom and winter formal dress shopping. “I’m very, very excited because now I can take a mental and physical break,” she said. Welter will be working at Hy-Vee and going to her show choir competition in Wahoo, Nebraska on Saturday.
Other activities this weekend include a Varsity Archery Tournament and IHSSA All-State Festival events.
