Strong Start for Boys’ Swimming

The boys’ swim team kicked off their season by traveling to Boone on Saturday, Dec. 1. They’ve also competed in meets at Sioux City and Marshalltown.

To start the night at Boone, the 4×50 yard Medley relay, consisting of Cole Sampson, Alec Muff, Brayden Atkinson and Avery Andersen took fifth place. Andersen, one of the seniors on the team, also swam in the JV 2×25 yard Freestyle relay with Schmidtke placing fourth, the 2×50 yard Free relay with Atkinson, finishing in fourth. Andersen also swam in the 4×100 yard Free relay with Bryan York, Atkinson and C. Sampson, ending in fourth place. The 2×250 Freestyle relay consisted of York and C. Sampson.

Fellow senior Tyson Parker swam in several events as well, including the 2×100 yard Medley with Drew Engler and the 2×50 yard Backstroke relay with C. Sampson, placing fourth. Parker also participated in the 4×50 yard Freestyle relay, swimming with Alex Sampson, Muff and Engler, finishing in fourth.

Several relays consisted of only freshmen, including the 2×100 yard Freestyle relay with A. Sampson and York, the 2×25 yard Freestyle with Atkinson and Muff, the JV 2×50 yard Free with Muff and Schmidtke and the 2×50 yard Breast relay with A. Sampson and Engler.

The boys then traveled to the Siouxland YMCA to compete against Sioux City North and South Sioux City. In the first event, the Trojans earned second in the 200 yard medley relay, consisting of C. Sampson, Engler, Muff and Andersen. For the 200 yard Freestyle relay, Atlantic placed fourth. Simming this event was A. Sampson, Muff, Atkinson and Engler. To finish out the relays, the Trojans tied for third with South Sioux City in the 400 yard Freestyle.

Individually, York placed second in the 200 yard Freestyle, Parker earned third in the 200 yard IM and Atkinson and Muff placed fifth and sixth respectively in the 50 yard Freestyle. Muff and Parker swam in the 100 yard Butterfly, with Muff finishing in fourth and Paker in fifth. Atkinson and Andersen swam the 100 yard Freestyle and placed fourth and fifth. In the 500 yard Freestyle, York placed second and C. Sampson earned fourth. C. Sampson was the only participant from Atlantic to swim in the 100 yard Backstroke, finishing in second place. Two trojans swam in the 100 yard Breaststroke, Engler and A. Sampson, earning fourth and fifth respectively.

Their most recent meet was in Marshalltown, with two relays earning medalist honors. This includes York and A. Sampson in 2×200 free (2nd place) and York and C.Sampson in 2×500 (2nd)

The Trojans earned third place in the 2×100 yard Free Relay at Marshalltown, with several fourth places finshed as well, including the JV 2×50 yard Freestyle, the 2×100 Butterfly and the JV 400 yard Freestyle relay. The varsity 2×50 yard Fresstyle relay earned fifth place, along with the 2×200 yard Medley relay and the 200 yard Freestyle relay. Lastly, the Trojans came in sixth in the 200 yard medley relay.

The boys’ swim team will compete in a triangular at the Carroll Recreation Center tonight, facing off against Carroll Community and Boone.
