A hat-trick for sophomore Kenzie Waters and two goals for junior Alyssa Ginther secured the win for the Trojan girls against the Carroll Tigers last night, May 17, with assists from sophomores Piper Zarbano, Chloe Davis and Waters. The team took 19 shots total, 12 of which were on goal. Sophomore goal-keeper Corri Pelzer had 11 saves during the game.

“Kenzie (Waters) played a really good game last night, she won a ton of balls,” said Pelzer. Waters scored her first goal within the first 40 seconds of the game, making it the fastest in school history. She has racked up five goals so far this season, with three games left for more opportunities.

Head coach Jordan Newberg said that after Waters scored the first goal the girls “let up for a few minutes,” allowing Carroll to score. However, after that, they “woke up” and controlled the game. “This was a full team effort, with defenders stepping up to keep the ball on our end of the field and the mids controlling the middle of the field,” Newberg said. He also gives credit to the girls who are subs, which helped keep players fresh throughout the game.

The girls’ next game is tonight, May 18, at Glenwood.
