Devin Erickson has been devoted to art during all four years of high school. Throughout his childhood, however, nothing seemed to point to him becoming an artist. Erickson grew up with four rowdy brothers: three older (Dakota, Christian, and Shay) and one younger (Brycen), none of which were involved in art. As a child, Erickson dreamed of becoming a police officer. “My dad was a cop,” Erickson said, as many young boys dream of following in their father’s footsteps.

As he progressed into high school, Erickson changed his views completely. He has been committed to art since the beginning, taking Basic Art his freshman year, Drawing One and Two sophomore year, Ceramics One and Two junior year and AP Art senior year. Before starting anything new, Erickson said he wanted to finish twelve of his old projects. He is most proud of winning three awards in the 2017 Hawkeye 10 Art Show, which was held in Shenandoah during the spring of last year.

After graduating high school, Erickson would like to major in business and is considering “maybe minoring in art.” Erickson plans to attend SWICC, a two-year college in Creston, and then transfer to a four-year college.
