Getting to Know the Class of 2018: Jiles McCoy

Jiles McCoy has a good connection with his family. “They are a great bunch of people,” McCoy said. He has two siblings: Shea, 5, and Paige, 21. During his free time, he enjoys hanging out with his girlfriend and playing football. McCoy decided to join football because he was “tired of being lazy.” Defeating Creston to win homecoming for the first time in over five years during the 2017 football season is his favorite school memory. He is also proud of his grades this past year.

As a child, McCoy wanted to be a vet because he really liked animals. After his chocolate lab named Hank died, McCoy said he learned how to enjoy the little things in life.

After high school, McCoy plans to move to Ankeny for three years before going into the Navy. He chose the Navy because he likes the special ops available there and it is also the branch his dad served in. McCoy’s dad has had a big impact on his life because “he’s always pushed me to be a better person and he raised me right.” McCoy said his father taught him good manners and good values.
