“There is not a better feeling than cheering on the team,” according to freshman cheerleader Molly McFadden. Try-outs for the 2018-19 cheer squad will be held tonight, Thursday, March 29, in the AHS multipurpose room, after school.

Freshman Riveá Keen said going out for cheerleading helps people open up with more confidence, especially if you’re shy or quiet. “You make all sorts of spectacular friends,” she said. “You also have the chance to show support for AHS while having tons of fun.

“You make great memories during the game or match,” said freshman Beverly Dodson, “whether we win or not.”

One of the best feelings comes after a long battle during a game. When we win, the relief on peoples’ faces is so intense.

Jasmyne Oasay-Waddell, also a freshman, said, “Cheerleading is a definite confidence-boosters…You feel like a part of the game.”

Cheer coach Andrea Reilly said both boys and girls are welcome to try out. No special equipment is needed.
