Busy Week for Trojan Cross Country

Last week, the girls’ and boys’ cross country teams traveled to Clarinda for the Hawkeye-10 Conference meet on Thursday and also traveled to Missouri Valley on Saturday.
At the Conference meet, the varsity girls placed third with a score of 88 points, 32 points behind second-place Denison and the Hawkeye-10 champions, Glenwood. Two Trojan girls placed in the top 20, earning an all-conference placing at the meet.
Freshman Taylor McCreedy was runner-up with a time of 20:42, 19 seconds behind the winner, junior Raegan Anderson of Denison. Junior Karsyn Rush placed 17th with a time of 22:02. Junior Ashley Wendt placed 22nd with a time of 22:15. Sophomore Pluma Pross and freshman Kennedy Goergen finished 24th and 25th respectively while freshman Madison Botos and senior Emily Saeugling placed 31st and 32nd.
In the varsity boys’ race, junior Jalen Petersen fell just short of a Hawkeye-10 individual championship. Petersen ran a time of 18:03 and placed third, four seconds behind the champion Mason Parks of Glenwood. Coming in after Petersen was sophomore Evan Brummer, placing 27th, and senior Cale Pellett in 30th. Junior Nathan Brockman finished the race in 32nd, senior Blake Pelzer finished in 57th, and freshman Ethan Williams and junior Tyler Roenfeld placed 65th and 67th respectively. The varsity boys placed sixth as a team.
Junior varsity girls placed second as a team and the JV boys placed sixth.
On Saturday, the teams traveled to Missouri Valley for their last regular season meet. The varsity girls won, with all seven runners placing in the top 20. Varsity boys placed third as a team with Petersen placing third individually.
The varsity cross country teams will race Thursday, Oct. 19, at the State-qualifying meet held at the Atlantic Golf and Country Club.
