Mary Hayes has participated in basketball, volleyball and golf. Some of her favorite memories in high school are, “fun times” in golf practice and volleyball. She is also a business editor for the journalism department. She is very proud of her many accomplishments and will always cherish her fun times in high school.

Hayes has been golfing since her dad taught her when she was a little girl, and is a member of the 2015 State Runner-Ups Golf team. She has stuck with golf ever since she was little and is proud to be on a team with such close friends, “having a blast.” One of her fondest memories was golfing at 5 X 80 golf club. She remembers the good times in the golf carts with her teammates. Hayes said she is most proud of “getting to know all the girls and becoming such good friends with everyone.”

Hayes has been very active in volleyball ever since she was in fifth grade. She has played on a winter club volleyball team called Top Ten, in which they have tournaments in Omaha and Des Moines, and has also been an ongoing player on the high school team. While Hayes has been varsity for three years, she loves helping out the youth over the summer and going to team camps with the girls at Central college in Pella. She said it was, “very rewarding” and would do it, “many times over again.”  Hayes said she is most proud of, “the leadership all the girls have grown to have, and even though it was easy to give up, we never did.”

Hayes has been one of the journalism editors for two years. She has fundraised $15,000 for the journalism department both her junior and senior years. “This is a very proud accomplishment for me,” Hayes said.  This has also lead to her future endeavors of attending college and majoring in business.
