New Names for AHS Show Choirs
by Brandon Ballinger
The Atlantic High School show choirs have changed their names.
The varsity show choir, previously known as the Ambassadors, will now call themselves the Premier Show Choir.
The change occurred Oct. 7 during the varsity show choir’s fourth-period class while students discussed t- shirt designs. The name was thought of by senior Sam Johnson. “It started out as a joke of something [choral director Luke Johnson] said, but I like it,” said Sam Johnson. Some of the other varsity members are wary of the change. For example, senior Cody Ihnen said, “I like the old name, but change happens and we should just roll with it.”
The Ambassadors used to be one of three show choirs along with the Sensations and Fresh Look. The freshman and JV choirs have combined into one choir this year and have taken the name Diversity. They got their name from posters in the vocal room promoting diversity. Choral director Luke Johnson comments, “It was a team effort and a good year to make a change because of all the other changes.”
Premier and Diversity Show Choirs will perform under their new names on Oct. 18 at 8:00 p.m. in the AHS auditorium.
