Filling the stage with the swing and energetic sound of music, the AHS Jazz Band season has begun. For the past few years, there has been a jazz band one and two because of the plethora of willing students who want to explore the jazz world. This year, only jazz one has started, mostly because details are still being figured out for jazz two. So far there are 20 members of jazz one and 12 in jazz two, with many different instruments that will bring the music to life.

There won’t be any performances or jazz competitions until after Christmas break, as the jazz one will be working hard on their music pieces. The songs that have been chosen are: “Pickles” a ballad called “I Hope in Time a Change Will Come” and a Latin piece, “Holy Habanero.” These unique pieces were picked specifically by Jarrod O’Donnell, the director of the jazz band, because they all “fit the kids and the soloists really well, and are lot of fun to play.”

Riley Seufert is a junior in the jazz one band.  “I have wanted to do jazz band since freshman year, but was scared,” Seufert said. “I thought since I have two more years left, I should give it a go.”
