Announcement of Musical

Early on Monday morning, choir students went on a scavenger hunt to find out what the spring musical will be. After following all the clues and running around the choir and band rooms, the members of the choir found out that the 2017 musical is “Fiddler on the Roof.”

This musical represents a story about a poor man who is struggling through the oppression of the czarist Russia. Jennifer Gaesser, the director of the spring musical, chose this musical because “it is different than some of the other musicals we have done the past 5 years. I think this show will challenge our student body. It is filled with comical and serious moments.”

Auditioning for “Fiddler on the Roof” will be on Dec. 19 and 20. The cast will begin preparing in Jan. and continue through Feb. and March.

Gaesser also said, “the AHS music department has filled out an application form for us to be critiqued for the Iowa High School Musical Theater Awards run by the Des Moines Civic Center.  They will send 3 judges out to critique our show the weekend of the musical. We will then receive constructive feedback, and could possibly receive awards in categories ranging from choreography, design, performance in a principal role, and overall musical production. Awards will be given out at the Des Moines Civic Center Awards Showcase on June 5.”
