Trojans Turn Loss into Learning Opportunities

Last night, April 20, the girls’ soccer team traveled to Earlham to play against Winterset. The varsity game, which was the only game of the night, ended with a loss of 0-9. The team was down their varsity goalie, senior Haley Carlson, due to State FFA, but freshman Halsey Bailey stepped up to defend the Trojans’ net.

Although last night was a tough game, assistant coach Dan Vargason said, “In last night’s game, the girls had better contact than the rest of the season and good defense.” The first half ended with a score of 0-3. Vargason also said that the girls are just trying to get better every game and learn the game better.
With these losses comes room for improvement. Vargason said, “I think a lot of it is skills that need to be worked on, and off season work on speed and agility.” The girls have two more games this week; Thursday, April 21 vs Denison (at Denison) and Friday, April 22 vs Treynor (at home).
