Both the Atlantic girl’s and boy’s track teams traveled to Glenwood last Saturday morning to participate in Glenwood’s 9th and 10th grade co-ed meet for the Ram Relays at Glenwood Middle School.

The Atlantic boys came in 3rd place with 94 points. Lewis Central came in second with 116.5 points and Glenwood brought home the gold with 186 points.

Sophomore John McConkey placed 6th in the boys shot put, throwing 37-01.50. Sophomore Cale Pellet earned 2nd place in the 3200 meter run posting a time of 11:48.23. In the boys 4×800 meter relay, Atlantic got 2nd place with a time of 9:38.27 and a running order consisting of freshman Zade Nikalsen, freshman Chase McLaren, sophomore Kole Schmitt and freshman Nathan Behrends.

In the boys 100 meter dash sophomore Jayden Barnwell placed 9th among 25 runners with a time of 12.43. Atlantic had two top ten finishers in the 400 meter dash and an 11th place winner with freshman Chase Mullenix earning 3rd place and sophomore Jaxson Eden right behind getting 4th place, posting times of 55.97 and 56.13.

Atlantic placed 2nd in the boys 4×200 meter relay timing 1:43.42 and a running order consisting of freshman Logan Reilly, sophomores Zeke Whetstone and Austin Alexander followed by freshman Nickalsen.

Sophomore Gratt Reed took home the gold in the 110 meter high hurdles winning with a time of 14.80, almost two seconds faster than second place. In the 1600 meter run freshman Jalen Petersen snagged 5th place running a 5:25.72 mile.

In the open 200 meter dash Atlantic had two top ten finishers, sophomores Barnwell and Whetstone placed 5th and 8th place respectively. Running times of 25.39 and 25.64. Sophomore Blake Pelzer won third place in the 400 meter hurdles time of 1:11.81, five seconds slower than second place.

The Trojans placed second yet again in a relay race, earning bronze in the boys distance medley with a time of 4:16.76 and running order of Alexander, Nikalsen, Reilly and Pellett. Atlantic had three top ten finishers in the 800 meter run. Schmitt, McLaren and Behrends coming in 3rd, 4th and 5th place respectively. Posting times in order of 2:25.87, 2:26.25, and 2:27.14.

Atlantic placed 10th in the 4×100 meter relay posting a time of 55.48. Junior Nathan Gray led off followed by McConkey and sophomore Seth Deets and anchored by sophomore Logan Templeton.

Atlantic won the 4×400 meter relay with runners Whetstone, Nikalsen, Mullenix and Eden posting a 3:47.41 time.

The next boy’s track meet is today in Creston.
