EVERYONE LOVES FOOD! Lately in the community there has been talk about a Jimmy John’s coming to town, possibly located in the new building at 7th and Walnut, across from Iowa Western.

Executive Director of the Atlantic Chamber of Commerce, Ouida Hargens, said that the Jimmy John’s was an idea that surfaced and was being seriously considered. However, since Jimmy John’s is a franchise, someone from the company has to approve the location. According to Hargens, the franchise didn’t think that they could make enough money to stay in business .“it just isn’t the right time,” Hargens said.

Kids at Iowa Western Community College talked about how it would be a good idea to have a fast food restaurant across the street so they could eat but not be late for class. The mayor of Atlantic Dave Johns is the owner of the new building going up across from the college. While a food franchise was considered, the building is now occupied by Farmers Insurance Company, a Franklin American Mortgage office, Body Basics and a hair salon.

Hargens said that the Chamber would like to get a new place to eat in this small town, but like the franchise said, Atlantic is just too small for anything else right now. “We already have two Subways,” she said.

If you have any more questions about potential businesses locating in Atlantic, the Chamber is located at 102 Chestnut St.

Some students in teacher Dan Vargason’s study hall said they would like to see an IHop or possibly a Perkins to have more options for breakfast. Sophomores Noah Brucker and Alexis Handle voted for an Olive Garden for some place nice to eat. The idea of a Panda Express come up too. The class talked about all the restaurants that would be good to put in our town but since our town isn’t big enough they know that new places aren’t a good decision.
