Due to lack of student interest, Atlantic High School does not currently have a bowling team in its future, although such a team is still a possibility.

With the addition of three new sports teams in the past two years for AHS, some were left to wonder about the possibility of a bowling team.  Archery and dance team were added during the 2014 school year, while swim team is currently in its first year at AHS.  Along with those sports, bowling was also being considered as a new option to try, but no action was taken.

Atlantic High School Athletic Director Matt Alexander said, “We will be sending out information through a student survey to understand the level of interest for a bowling team for boys and girls.”  Alexander also mentioned that a bowling team is not a strong priority at the moment, because the school wants to avoid splitting population between activities.

The sport of bowling for AHS would take place during the winter season.  10 boys and 10 girls would be required to have a team for both, as well as coaches.  Alexander said he had 2 or 3 coaches who had interest, but no names were given.  As far as when a bowling team could be possible, Alexander said, “The bowling team could get started this year, if there are enough members.”
