First Tennis Practice

By Lisa Gearheart and Alexi Allen

Girls’ and boys’ tennis practices were scheduled to begin on Monday, March 11, but were postponed to Tuesday, March 12, because of a snow day. The first practices of the season were held indoors because of inclement weather. Girls’ practice began at 3:45 p.m. and boys’ practice began at 4:45 p.m.

During practice, players went over the basics of holding a racket, forehand form, backhand form, and serving. They practiced drills such as “1, 2, 3 serve” and “side toss.”

Practices will continue every day during Spring Break. Girls will begin at 3 p.m. and boys will begin at 4:30 p.m. Coach Petersen emphasizes that these practices are essential as the first tennis meets are coming up quickly.

This year, Atlantic’s Booster Club has donated money to Atlantic High School to purchase warm-up sweats for the 2013 tennis teams.

The first tennis meets for boys and girls will be held on Tuesday, April 2. The girls will have their first meet at home vs. Kuemper Catholic. The boys will travel to Carroll to also battle the Kuemper Catholic Knights.
