The 2010 AHS Academic Awards Night was held Nov. 4 in the high school commons.
Every year the high school hosts this banquet to recognize the academic achievement of its students. To be recognized at this event, students must accumulate 40 or more academic points. Each semester’s points are added up according to this scale: F = -2, D = -1, C = 0, B = 1, and A = 2.
Once a students have earned their points, they receive an academic letter. If students earn 70 points, they will receive a Trojan head for their letter jacket. The award and banquet help motivate students to do well in school and try their best.
Academic letters are also awarded at senior night in the spring.
Junior Marissa Berns said, “I think it’s good that we recognize academics because sports get recognized a lot and grades don’t.”
Academic Awards night is a way to recognize students who do well in school.
