Her amazing golfing skills sprouted from her hard work and inspiration by her parents, friends and teammates. Brooke Newell earned her way to get a scholarship to Nebraska to play golf.

Newell,17, was a senior in 2016-17 school year. She lived in Atlantic with her mom, dad, older brother, younger sister and younger brother. She has played golf since she was 7 years old. Her mom and dad inspired her, and took golfing when she was a childhood.

Newell played softball, basketball and golf throughout her life. She excelled in golf and decided she wanted to play at the next level. She said she was “competitive” and practiced very hard the next day if she did not play to her standards.

Newell won many tournaments. During her freshman year, she was a part of her team when the Trojans won the state championship in golf. During her sophomore year, she was again a part of the team that was runner-up. She placed third that year. And in her junior year, she stood second and became the Co-Class 3A Girls Golfer of the year. Newell said, “I am proud of winning two state golf championships, getting a runner-up and making it to state in softball.”

Newell verbally accepted a scholarship early her senior year to play golf for the University of Nebraska in fall of 2017, and plans to major in Animal Science. She has selected Nebraska over Missouri and Southern Illinois after taking visits to all three. She chose Nebraska because “the facilities at Nebraska are second to none and they have great tradition”. She is also a fan of the coach.

Newell plans to continue golfing throughout the rest of her life, and hopes to accomplish amazing in the next golf championship.
