Last Saturday, juniors Josh McLean and Scott Leonard worked together and created a broadcast that got them a mixed one rating at state speech. They competed in the event Radio Broadcasting with their piece, Mayhem 88.3.

This broadcast featured McLean as a level-headed and serious journalist while Leonard portrayed a man who was seriously into superheroes. In their piece they touched many different aspects of the superhero and comic book world.

These two AHS speech members were the only ones to receive a mixed one rating and represent Atlantic at the All-State Festival. McLean said he was “pretty pleased,” when found out that Mayhem 88.3 received a one. McLean also didn’t expect to be recommended for All-State because it’s rare for a group with a mixed one to go, “You have to have two judges recommend you for All-State to be able to go. The female judge we had gave us a two but the other two judges we had gave us a one and both recommended us for All-State.”

First time speech member Scott Leonard said, “I would like to say that speech is a lot more fun than I thought it would be, and I would also like to give a shout out to Ms. Walker for getting me to go out for speech.”
